Celebrating International Mother Language Day: The Power of Language in Shaping Our World

Writer: aBordo-onBoardaBordo-onBoard

Every February 21, we celebrate International Mother Language Day, a reminder of the rich linguistic diversity that shapes our identities, cultures, and ways of thinking. Language is more than just a means of communication—it carries history, traditions, and the essence of who we are.

In a world where many languages are at risk of disappearing, recognizing and preserving our mother tongues is a commitment to cultural heritage and human connection. Each language holds a unique worldview, a way of understanding and expressing reality that cannot be replaced.

As a translator, I witness firsthand how language bridges gaps, fosters understanding, and brings voices to new audiences. But beyond translation, embracing linguistic diversity means valuing every person’s right to express themselves in their mother tongue.

Today, let’s celebrate the beauty of our native languages, uplift those who fight for linguistic preservation, and advocate for a world where no language—and no voice—is left behind.
